Increases in construction spending and demand for alternative energy sources will drive demand for electricians.”

- Current active apprentices in one of the following programs: Area 1 JATC inside Electrical JATC Apprenticeship or EMG of Washington Inside Electrical Apprenticeship.
JATC (Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees)
Prairie partners with Portland’s local JATC (Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees) to administer the apprenticeship program. Here’s what you’ll get as part of your training:
- 8,000 hours on-the-job training
- 576 hours of classroom training
- Semi-annual wage increase
- Certificate of Completion
- Referral to the State General Journeyman Electrician exam upon completion
As for pay while an apprentice electrician, you can expect to earn more than $21 an hour by year four. After that, depending on the type of electrical work you do, you may begin to earn a wage in the mid-$30-an-hour range plus benefits.
