Drugs and alcohol continue to pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of students in our community. Next week, we will be hosting an important presentation on this issue.
- What: Presentation by Washington State Patrol officers on drug and alcohol awareness
- When: Thursday, April 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
- Where: Fort Vancouver High School
5700 E 18th St, Vancouver, WA 98661 - Options: Separate presentations in English and Russian
The same presentation will be given at schools in neighboring districts: Tuesday, April 15 at Prairie High School (English only); and Wednesday, April 16 at Mountain View High School (English and Spanish). A recorded version of the presentation will also be shared after the presentation.
While fentanyl has created major headlines recently, other drugs and alcohol continue to pose dangers for students. In this presentation, officers will discuss:
- Detecting drug impairment
- Current drug trends
- How students start using drugs — peer pressure, curiosity, availability, mental health
- The lasting impact drugs have on quality of life, mental and physical well-being, and decision making
- Changes in social views, state laws
The presentation starts a two-part series on student safety. In May, law enforcement experts will offer a presentation on the dangers students face online and on social media. We will have more details in the coming weeks.
The safety and well-being of students will always be a top priority for us. Join us next week in helping keep our students safe!
