VPS students competed in winter sports state competitions. Congratulations to the following state champions and athletes who placed in the top 10!

Basketball
Hudson’s Bay High School’s girls’ basketball team claimed sixth place in the 2A state tournament. The Eagles brought home the school’s first girls’ basketball state trophy. The team includes Mae Carse, Promise Bond, Miranda Gonzalez, Shakira Gonzalez, Alana Stephens, Devon Johnson Brown, Paytin Ballard, Mahaila Harrison, Aniyah Hampton, Zoraya Jones and Emma Mady. Tanya Martin and Michael Rainville are the head coaches.

Bowling
Rose Ugbinada, Fort Vancouver, earned second place in the 1A/2A state tournament. Julie Pagel is the Fort bowling team’s coach.

Columbia River High School’s KyleeJo Wisinski came in fourth place. The Columbia River team also took home gold. The team includes Wisinski, Pax Marino, Sadie Burrows, Jamie Green, Addison Capson, Patience Fauvelle and Hailey Gress. Logan Burnett is their coach.

In the 4A state tournament, three Skyview High School bowlers rolled into the top 10. Addysen Case was fourth, Lauren Gaynor was fifth and Chloe Gregory was seventh. The Skyview team swept the 4A competition and took home the gold. The team includes Case, Gaynor, Gregory, Karley Coleman, Avery Henderson, Kennedy Brents and Kaydree Rowland. Traci Chun and Eric Silvey are their coaches.

Swimming
Liam Noftsker of Columbia River High School was third in the 2A boys’ 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Alyssa Manlow is Columbia River’s swimming coach.

Wrestling
Six VPS wrestlers placed in the top eight at the Mat Classic XXXIII.

In the 2A competition, Tennyson Kurtz of Columbia River High School was fourth in the 138 weight class. Columbia River’s Adam Deeney was fifth in the 145 weight class, and teammate Gage Newman was eighth in the 160 weight class. Jose Delmoral is their coach.

In the 4A 132 competition, Owen Pritchard of Skyview High School was third place. Skyview teammate William Gomez was eighth in the same weight class. Jon Schoenlein, also of Skyview, was fifth in the 4A 160 weight class. Jess Pritchard is Skyview’s head coach.

Gymnastics
Anna Sugarman of Skyview High School placed third in the 4A beam event and 11th in the all-around event. Alyssa Loomis is their coach.
