Two students recognized for academic achievements
Two Vancouver students have been named semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program:
Carla Kolze, Columbia River High School
Van Higgs, Skyview High School
Kolze and Higgs are among the more than 380 students in Washington state and 16,000 nationally who achieved semifinalist status. Less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors earn this distinction. Semifinalist status is based on high scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
These students are now in the running to become finalists. The process includes submitting a detailed scholarship application, demonstrating an outstanding academic record, earning endorsement by a high school administrator, writing an essay and earning high scores on either the SAT or ACT. Approximately half of the finalists will go on to win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the title of Merit Scholar.
